FABRIC DEFECTS

SN DEFECT NAME DESCRIPTION CAUSES
1
DOUBLE END
More than one end working in a heald eye without the adjacent end missing.
1. Sticky ends on weaver’s beam. 2. Wrong drawing-in of ends through heald eyes.
2
FLOTS
Defect in a woven fabric where warp and weft threads do not interlace as desired.
1. Broken end getting entangled with the adjacent warp ends.
2. Knots with long tail end leading to entanglement of ends.
3. Fluff or foreign matter trapped in the shed.
3
MISS DRAWN
Incorrect position of ends in the fabric causing considerable damage in fabrics with woven design or strips.
1. Faulty drawing-in of beam.
 2. Faulty drawing-in of broken ends by the weaver.
4
MISSING END
The fabric is characterised by a gap parallel to warp. It may be short one or running throughout the piece. The number of ends missing may be one or more than one. The fabric containing this defect when dyed will show up as gap and will be prominently visible. In pattern fabric, the pattern will be spoiled
1. The loom is not equipped with warp stop motion.
2. Drop Wires dirty. Accumulation of lint may prevent their dropping.
 3. In electric warp stop motion, the electro bars are dirty or corroded. 4. The weaver is careless in not tying the end in time.
1
REED MARK,WARP STREAK (Warp lines, Parallel lines)
Considerable streakiness in warp way particularly in dyed goods will spoil the appearance of the fabric. If the streaks run parallel to warp and throughout the width of fabric, the same has to be cut in fents and rags.
1. Bad reed or damaged reed or reed with wide gaps. 2. Broken end not repaired immediately. 3. Wrong drawing. 4. Excessive warp tension 5. Mix-up of yarns of different luster count or blend proportion.
